Saint Lurent, 82 years later

Today, August 1st, 2018, we celebrate something really important in the fashion industry. The birthday of one of the most influential designers ever seen in the world: Yves Saint Laurent.

Born in Orlan, Argelia, in one of the most opulent families in the place -his father was a baron, chief of an ensure company and owner of many cinemas- he liked to read fiercely Vogue magazine as a child. He was attracted by the world of design since that very age and wanted to be very famous in the industry.

Later on, when he finally graduated from the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Saint Laurent moves to Paris and starts working at Dior, not as a fashion designer properly, but he designed plenty of accessories and the office of the maison. The beginning of his career started when Christian Dior in person designated him as his sucesor as designer in chief in the maison. This was a controversial decision because Christian was yet to young to retire, probably he was assuming he was going to die and wanted to leave his precious fashion house in good hands because later, that same year, Christian Dior died by a heart attack.


Though his work at Dior did not last to much. Saint Laurent is called to join the  french army three years later but doesn't last long. 20 days after he entered the army, he is hospitalised by a stress attack because of the bullying he received from some of his mates; once there, he discovers he had lost his job at Dior because of his departure and he will not take it back again, therefore he suffers another hit in his mental health and is taken to the Val-de-Grace psychiatric centre where, unfortunately, he is treated with electro shock therapies, sedatives, and other kind of treatments, which explains why he had so many addictions once he was at the top.


He founded his homonym house of haute couture at the end of  1960 with the money he won after winning a demand on the house of Christian Dior for moral damage. His first collection was a total success, and the rest then is history.

Today, as every single year, we remember the grand designer called Yves Saint Laurent. His techniques on the design really revolutionised the history of fashion in women and menswear, more specially on hers than on his. Let's remember he designed the first pants suit for women, because he thought fashion must be unisex. His poetry in this art is remembered for every single designer actually and he is the inspiration of most of them. Everybody now is trying to change the world of fashion, but we think no one can do it as the mythical Saint Laurent did when he was alive.

82 years are celebrated now since his birthday and ten years had passed away since his dead, but as the years go by and by we will never forget about the man who changed the fashion rules.
